Mingo Classic
Nick Wolk of Peters Township maintained his crown as one of the breakthrough runners of the season as he earned yet another victory! Wolk ran a lifetime best 15:44.6 to earn win by 17 seconds over Ben Bumgarner of Waynesburg Central. Team title honors went to Chartiers Valley, as they placed five in the top 20 to earn a 62-76 win over Canon MacMillan.
For the girls, Danielle Hinish of Bethel Park recorded a lifetime best performance in her own victory. Hinish ran 18:49.8 to earn a 26 second victory over Savannah Shaw of Upper Saint Clair. Peters Township cruised to the team title, scoring 46 points with six in the top 20 to win by 60.
Indiana County
Sam Lenze of Indiana Area successfully defended his county championship with a 12 second win over Homer Center's Sam Cunkelman. Lenze's performance also led his team to a narrow 5 point win over Kiski Prep, 58-63, with some big help from the team's 2-3-4 runners.
For the girls, Taya Whitfield of Marion Center improved on her 2014 silver medal performance with a gold medal in 20:35.4, winning by 36 seconds. Marion Center had half of the top six finishers to win the team title over Indiana Area 35-47.
Westmoreland Coaches
The Westmoreland Coaches meet debuted on the new Westmoreland Community College course and the new course is flat and fast, and the performance are a big evidence of that.
The athletes had personal bests all over the place, and Mark Provenzo of Franlink Regional ran a huge personal best of 15:38.4 to win the gold medal over Ben Bickerton of Southmoreland (15:57). Norwin had four of the top seven finishers to cruise to the team title 32-80 over Franklin Regional.
For the girls, Megan Aller of Kiski Area ran a big personal best of 18:05.1 to hold off Maria Cawoski of Greater Latrobe by 4 seconds. Norwin completed the team title sweep with a 14 point victory over Kiski Area, 49-63, with a 56 second 1-5 spread.
