Leah Nugent Takes Sixth in 400-Meter Hurdles Final

Former Abington standout Leah Nugent can now say she's competed in an Olympic final.

Nugent, who competes for Jamaica where he father is from, finished sixth in in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles, running a personal best of 54.45. That's nearly a full second faster than the PR to ran at the Jamaican Trials to qualify for the Rio Games.

Nugent was one of three Jamaicans in the finals. USA's Dalilah Muhammad won gold in a time of 53.13. Nugent was lucky to have even made the semifinals after she was initially disqualified in the preliminary round for a hurdle violation. She protested that ruling and was allowed into the semis.

Before the start of her Olympic run, we looked back on her high school career at Abington.
