Mid-Penn Girls' Recap

VARSITY RESULTS

In a dual of young blood and veteran blood, it was the new blood that had the upper hand. Greencastle-Antrim's Taryn Parks, a freshman, beat Chambersburg junior Abby Yourkavitch in a very close race. Parks timed in at 18:36 to Yourkavitch's 18:43.

Parks made up around a ten second deficit, according to PennLive's Timothy Johnson in his great meet feature, and beat Yourkavitch, who was second to Cumberland Valley's Mady Clahane at this meet last season. This will be the last we'll see of this rivalry this season as far as XC is concerned. Parks' Greencastle-Antrim squad is in Class-AA, while Yourkavitch and Chambersburg compete in AAA. Parks is solidifying herself as the favorite to capture that AA state crown in a few weeks.

Hersehy's Andrea Demko continued her strong junior season taking third in 18:52, while Northern freshman Marlee Starliper was fourth in 19:00.

In the team race, it was PA#6 State College Area that took down Chambersburg and PA#5 Hershey. State College put together a fantastic team effort, placing its top five in the top 22. Catherine Curtin led the way with an eighth place finish in 19:21 and Gabriella Bock was 12th in 20:03.

Chambersburg continues to impress. They put three in the top ten to score 89 points and take second. After Yourkavitch's second place, Kaylee Mowery was fifth in 19:11 and Cadie Klser was tenth in 19:35. Hershey, led by Demko's third place and Taylor Mortensen's 19:20.

Next up for these teams in two weeks in the District 3 Championships as they return to Big Spring High School.
