10/18 | Shikellamy Classic Cross Country Invitational
Shikellamy
By Michael Carpenter
The Shikellamy Classic on Saturday had plenty of impressive finishes, including a wire finish in the boys varsity race. But the main story has to be centered around Sophia Ziemian of Lewisburg and her course record finish in 18:19. Ziemian, now a SR at Lewisburg, has been on everyone's radar after her 17:35 5k at Nike Outdoor Nationals in June, and then her SB 18:08 at the Big Valley Inv in late August. But at the classic, Sophia was untouched in her incredible performance, followed by her teammates Kiah Hardcastle, 2nd in 18:52, and Shannon Wright, 4th in 19:26, which led to a Lewisburg team title with only 39 pts. At least the course record was kept in the Lewisburg family. The mark of 18:32.9 had been set last year by Casey Miller.
The mens race may not have seen any records fall, but it was quite an exciting finish. Tyler Erhard of East Juniata and Ian Eisenhauer of Jersey Shore raced to the finish, both posting a 16:35 with Erhard earning the win. But the excitement continued when Mike Davis and Chris Brandt of Danville raced to a 3-4 finish, both posting a 16:38. Teammate Tyler Barnhart was 5th in 17:06, and Danville would go on to win the team title over Jersey Shore, 59-62. |
