NCAA D1 Mid-Atl: Koons-Costello 1-2 + Mcnally-Dawson lead PSU to NCAA Champs

Villanova's Frances Koons (Allentown Central Catholic) wins the NCAA D1 Mid-Atlantic Region. Princeton's Liz Costello (Conestoga) takes 2nd and leads Tigers to 1st place tie with West  Virginia and auto-bid. Koons' Villanova Wildcats were 3rd; with scoring help from Sarah Morrison's (Chambersburg) 5th on the team; and could receive an at-large bid. Vince McNally (Conestoga Valley) is 6th and Kyle Dawson (Coatesville) 8th to lead Penn State to 2nd place and auto bid. Koons ran 21:11 in the muddy conditions to hold off Costello by four seconds. Georgetown captured the men's race with 27 points, 46 better than Penn State. The Villanova men were 3rd with the help of their 3rd runner, Keith Capecci (Council Rock North).

Last weekend at Cooper's Lake near Slippery Rock, the Shippensburg women won the NCAA D2 region behind Neely Spence's winning 21:09. Mary Dell (Boiling Springs) and Abby Huber (Cumberland Valley) were 8th and 10th, respectively, for Ship.  Ben Hahn (Smethport) was 2nd running for Edinboro, and Jeff Weiss of Sllippery Rock (McGuffey), was 3rd.
