AAA Girls' 100m Preview
During an unbelievable quadruple at the District 1 Championships, Cheltenham's Chanel Brissett blasted a PR and PA#1 of 11.74 in the 100 meters. But the state record holder will drop the 100 meters for Shippensburg, turning her focus elsewhere. And with an injury, sidelining defending state champion Jaylyn Aminu of Liberty, we have an open field for the AAA state title here.
Conestoga's Grace Lanouette enters as the only girl with a sub-12 second 100 meters to her name this season. The junior ran 11.94 two times, including at the District 1 Championships to take second to Brissett. She's improved a great deal since last year and is a serious contender for states.
Avonworth/Northgate's Hunter Robinson has been on an absolute tear this season, picking up wins at every corner and 100 best of 12.01. She comes in as the #2 seed and will look to take some gold medals home. Robinson was third at states last season, while her A/N team was in AA.
There are four returners from last year's state final. Pennridge's Kouri Peace was second last season, but she looked hobbled upon crossing the line at the District 1 Championships. There's Whitehall's Amanda Crooks, who looked strong winning the District 11 title. CB South's Lydia Fielding was seventh last season (she took sixth at District 1). Obama Academy's Raven Haston, the class of District 8, took eighth as just a freshman last season. All will hope to make return trips to the podium this season.
Cedar Cliff's Grace Gillespie took the win at the District 3 Champs over the weekend. She knows how to step up when the time is right. Perkiomen Valley's Rebekah Bondi had a big day at District 1, dropping a big PR of 12.13 to place third. Norristown's Jonae Cook, East Pennsboro's Cece Insalaco, Hollidaysburg's Ali Wyland, and Coatesville's Arianna Eberly are among the others with a shot at medals in the 100.
