Bill Coren's District 1 Girls' Meet Preview

AAA GIRLS 1st 5 teams plus the next 25 non-top 5 place team finishers qualify for STATES
TEAMS
HISTORY--- (of the teams who have a shot in 2017)--NORTH PENN(4th 2016) has qualified 11 of the last 18 years- UNIONVILLE was 3rd in 2016, 2nd in 2014 and 2015, 1st in 2013 and 2012 and 2nd in 2011 and made STATES all 5 years from 2003 to 2007. - STRATH HAVEN(5th 2015 and 2016) has made STATES 8 of the last 13 years.-PERK VALLEY(1st 2016) made it to STATES in 2015 and 2016 and 2007. - OWEN J ROBERTS(6th 2016) made it in 2015. -CENTRAL BUCKS WEST just missed from 2013-2016 and they made it in 2012 and 2005.-CONESTOGA made it once back in 2014-WEST CHESTER HENDERSON qualified 7 times from 2003-2011- SPRINGFORD(9th 2016), WEST CHESTER EAST, and COUNCIL ROCK NORTH have NEVER(in the 21st Century) made STATES in GIRLS XC!!(yes-COUNCIL ROCK made it in 2000 and 2001 before the split-so maybe that counts??)
If you are counting, that equals 11 teams trying to go to Hershey to ?eat chocolate and run the challenging State course. (Only 5 will survive!!). As always it is VERY!!! TOUGH!! making it to STATES from District 1.
2017 PREDICTIONS!!??
The 5th place team will likely score over 300 points for the 1st time it will ever be that high(Yes-That means 5 girls averaging 60th place)

What a pleasure it was to see how well District One's seniors performed!! last fall. 16 of the TOP 26 finishers were SENIORS!!(maybe coaching girls the right way is finally paying off!!!) 4 more also qualified for STATES! And this year 6 of my TOP 8 are SENIORS as well(WAY TO GO COACHES!!!)
In 2016 39th qualified for STATES--that meant there were 14 girls on the TOP 5 teams who would have individually made STATES. This year that number appears to be likely 13-OJR(4) CBW(4) CON(2) CRS(1) and PERKV(2)
Among them are- Shultz(CON)(12)(11th 2016 23rd 2015. 107th 2014)- Scheinbecker(PERKV)(12)(55th 2016. 43rd 2015)-Sands(OJR)(12)(45th 2016)-Bernotas(OJR)(12)(20th 2016. 120th 2015)-Wilson(CBW)(10)(49th 2016)-Flood(CBW)(9)-Kopec(OJR)
Just to clear up the confusion for the 25 individual qualifiers, I am going to say that these 5 teams' individuals will be removed. That's 13 girls 13+ 25 = 38th place likely to make STATES??? This year's time will likely be slower than 2016(19:13) and I believe 19:30 may make STATES!!??
