Hispanic Games - Girls' Recap
Saturday was yet another historic day for one of the greatest sprinters the state of Pennsylvania has ever seen come through the prep ranks. Thelma Davies of Girard College had another huge meet at the Armory, setting a meet record in one event and running the second fastest all-time PA time in another event.
Davies blasted a 6.83 in the 55 meters, just off her own PR of 6.82, which she ran last season winning at the Millrsoe Games. That breaks Myasia Jacobs' meet record in the event by .02. It also put Davies at US#1 in the 55 meters (she is already US#1 in the 60 meters).
Davies wasn't done, though. She absolutely dominated the 200 meter field, winning in 23.89, well over a second better than second place in the event. That's the second fastest time by a Pennsylvania girl all-time in the event, just off Kouri Peace's 2016 state record of 23.74. Davies is now US#2 in the event, as Lanae-Tava Thomas of New York ran 23.87 last week at The Armory. Saturday was Davies' first time under 24 seconds in her career indoors.
Christina Warren of Perkiomen Valley continued her terrific start to her junior campaign. Warren improved upon her own state lead in the 55 meter hurdles, running 8.00 to take second to current US#1 in the event, Sophia Myers. Myers' previous national leader stood at 8.00, but she dropped a 7.89 for the win Saturday. For Warren, it's a US#2.
Warren then came back in the triple jump and posted another big performance. She jumped 39-7.75 in a series that included an additional jump over 39 feet. She captured the win in the event by over two feet. It's also the fourth meet (in four tries) that Warren has jumped at least 39 feet or better.
Pittston Area's Abby Norwillo has done nothing but win all season long. That didn't change Saturday, as Norwillo took home her fifth win of the season. The senior was clean over 12-6 on her first attempt at the height then moved the bar all the way up to 13-3.25, which would improve on her own PR and state lead jump of 13-0.5. No dice there, though, but still another great meet from Norwillo, who keeps soaring.
Madison Langley-Walker of Upper Dublin took a narrow second place in the long jump. Langley-Walker jumped a best of 18-0, just like Tionna Tobias of New Jersey, but Tobias got the advantage on a better second-best jump, which was also 18-0. Langley-Walker's was 17-11.5, just a half inch off.
The Baldwin School turned in a pair of solid performances in the 400 meters. Acey Pratt placed tenth in the inviational 400 meters in a PA#10 time of 59.13. Her teammate Myla Barnett ran 59.28 in the Varsity 400 meters for first place overall.
Quakertown's Kacey Lambinus placed third in the high jump, clearing 5-2.
