PIAA States Preview: Girls' Jumps

AAA Girls' Long Jump Preview

The top three seeds in the girls' long jump are separated by just a quarter inch and AAA girls' long jump is setting up to be once of the weekend's most closely-contested events.

North Penn's Natalie Kwortnik, State College's Taylor Givens, and North Allegheny's Casey Burton all leapt to district titles and PRs this past week. Kwortnik's 19-04 to win D1 leads the way in AAA this season, but Givens and Burton are also hitting their stride at the right time, jumping 19-03.75 at D6 and D7, respectively.

But not far off that trio is Madison Langley-Walker of Upper Dublin, who leapt 19-02.25 to finish second to Kwortnik at D1. North Hills' Amberly Valeriano and Oakland Catholic's Jayla Ellis also supplied big season best jumps to take 2-3 at WPIALs behind Burton. Valeriano's teammate Elaina Longjohn was fourth at WPIALs with a jump of 18-02.25.

Stroudsburg's Ayanna BurrellCentral Dauphin's Gabriella Recce, Conestoga Valley's Aviona Saunders, and Perkiomen Valley's Christina Warren are among the others that should contend in this deep field that could truthfully be won by one of the top 15 or so seeds.
