Kyle Burke (Abington Heights): AAA Boys' 1,600m
Burke continued a trend of surprise winners in the AAA 1,600 meters at the PIAA State Championships (Alex Milligan in 2016 and Isaac Kole in 2017), but his victory at Ship is probably most akin to that of a fellow District 2 competitor from two years ago.
In 2016, North Pocono's Matt Kravitz beat a heat similar to the high temps we saw at states this year to win the AAA 3,200 meters in upset fashion. Kravitz then headed off to Lehigh University where he'll (maybe not so) coincedentally be joined in the fall by Burke.
Burke outkicked Bishop Shanahan's Jonah Hoey and Grove City's Jonah Powell for the win in 4:16.93, proudly displaying the "AH" across his chest as he crossed the line.
