Team Breakdown: PIAA District 3 Girls

D3-AA Girls - Team Breakdown

The Northern girls put forth a dominating effort at districts last year, scoring just 44 points for the top spot. That squad went on to take fourth at states in AA.

Up front, of course, Northern has Marlee Starliper, the odds on favorite to come away from Hershey with one point. Katie Anthony and Amber Swaisgood are also back. The Polar Bears will look to fill in the blanks where it lost some graduating seniors. Northern is the team to beat in District 3 and will have a great shot to return to states and place very high.

York Suburban was second at districts last season and then took 11th at states. Five varsity girls are back this fall. Courtney Ohl and Emma Trout are the team's top returners and YS should have a very good shot of cracking the top three -- and possibly challenging Northern -- and returning to the state meet.

The other state qualifying team from last year was Boiling Springs. The team loses two of its top three from last year, but returns five varsity girls led by Abbie Erme. If some girls from the backend of the varsity team from last year can see some improvements into this season, Boiling Springs could be looking at a return trip to states.

Big Spring was just three points off Boiling Springs for the final states spot last year. Gabrielle Reifsnyder (eighth at districts last year) will lead this team that has six varsity girls from a year ago. Once again, Big Spring will be in the hunt on their home course. Wyomissing Area is another squad with a good shot at the top three. Gettysburg Area returns its full squad from a year ago and could mix it up with the top teams.
