Two of Pennsylvania's top half milers battled to the line in a race of veteran vs. newcomer at Sunday's Ocean Breeze Invitational.
In the end, the newcomer -- freshman Micah Trusty - took the win, while the veteran - senior Grace Forbes - was second. Trusty of Friends' Central came home in 2:13.55, a PA#1 and US#7. Forbes of Strath Haven was just tenths off, clocking a PA#2 and US#8 time of 2:13.78.
Christine Mancini of Cardinal O'Hara took third in a PA#6 time of 2:15.79.
Trusty took the lead 200 meters in and held it the rest of the way, staving off a late charge from Forbes in the homestretch to take the victory. Trusty's time is also the fastest freshmen time in the country so far this season. Alina LaForest of Saint Basil Academy was fifth in the race and sits at US#2 for ninth graders. Coatesville's Sammie Miller went 2:17.52 to take fourth in the race, a PA#7 time.
It's been an interesting season so far in the 800 meters on the girls' side and Sunday's race between proved that. Watch the race above and check out the results below:
