Girls' 60-Meter Hurdles
Another big matchup to watch for at indoor states will come in the 60-meter hurdles, as defending champion Christina Warren will square off with current PA#1 Jane Livingston.
Livingston of Conestoga Valley has been on a tear this winter, after coming off an injury from last spring that sidelined her for a while. She's come back even stronger, running a PR of 8.41, which puts her at PA#1 and US#5 entering the weekend. Warren of Perkiomen Valley has run 8.50 (US#12) this year in what has been yet another solid season for the senior.
The two favorites met at the PTFCA Carnival, where Livingston earned the win (each running their season bests). That race was a states preview of sorts, but Warren will be looking for redemption to retain her state title at Penn State. This is another can't-miss race.
There's some tremendous depth after Livingston and Warren in the hurdles this season. Oakland Catholic's Jayla Ellis and Council Rock South's Elke Knecht both come in with season bests at 8.78. Ellis (fourth at states last year) won the TSTCA Championships, while Knecht was most recently second to Warren at the DVGTCA Meet of Champions.
Tia Taylor of Saint Basil Academy was third at MOCs. The sophomore was the AA outdoor state champ in the high hurdles last year and comes in with a best of 8.91. She was seventh at indoor states last season. Mount Lebanon's Flynn Begor (8.93) and Cheltenham's Brianna Smith (8.96) are also among the seven girls that have gone sub-9 in the hurdles this winter.
Look for a great final, with prelims and semis that will be crucial towards getting into medals territory.
