Boys' 200 Meters Preview
Much like the 60 meter dash, the 200 meters will present an interesting field with a number of contenders, but no clear-cut favorite.
At the top of the state rankings entering Sunday is Neshaminy's Savion Hebron. The senior has made some big improvements into his final prep season. He faced tough competition all season long and is running his best in the 200 at the right time, evidenced by his 21.72 at Ocean Breeze a few weeks ago.
He'll be challenged by a host of others, who have run sub-22 times this season. Daiyaan Hawkins of Haverford School. He stood at PA#1 in the 200 with his 21.84 until Hebron's SB a few weeks ago. Hawkins was fifth at MOCs, but if he can get back to that early season level, he can certainly be a factor here.
Norristown's Austin Montgomery (21.91) and Westtown's Julian Klenner (21.94) each have sub-22 times, as well. Both are strong racers that will be in contention on Sunday for very high places. Girard College's Donovan Sanders is right on the cusp of sub-22. His 22.07 from Bullis is impressive and he ran a flat track 22.33 at the Last Chance Meet to win. He was ninth last season, but should find himself battling for the win.
The lone returning medalist from a year ago is Tyler Byrd from Bishop McDevitt. He was sixth a year ago and with a best time of 22.56 from this season, he'll have a shot at the top eight again. Germantown Friends' Kai Cummings and Central Bucks South's Michael Cannon Jr. are also strong bets for medals in this field.
