North Allegheny's Zach Kinne put forth a dominating performance in the 3,000 meters at last week's PTFCA Indoor State Championship. The senior and Duke University recruit who moved to PA from Illinois before the start of this school year captured his first state title in Pennsylvania.
Kinne wasted no time making the race his own. He went right to the front and started pulling away from the pack. He got a challenge from Mars Area's Zachary Leachman at around the midpoint of the race. Eventually, Kinne pulled away for a convincing win.
Kinne clocked a time of 8:33.83 for the title. It tops Kinne's own state-leading time puts him at US#5 in the 3K on the season.. Next up for the senior is the Championship 2 Mile Run at New Balance Nationals Indoor, set for next weekend at the Armory in New York.
With a big kick, Kinne's NA teammate Daniel McGoey moved up to take second in 8:45.71. Leachman finished strong to take third in 8:45.80 and Jenkintown's Jack Miller was fourth in 8:51.54
