A big race was coming from Bria Barnes. It was just a matter of when.
Well, it came Friday evening in West Chester at the Hoka One One Henderson Invitational. The Cheltenham senior, who was yet to contest an open 400 meters this spring made her season debut in the event and jumped into the state's top spot with room to spare.
Barnes went 54.45, a huge outdoor PR and new PA No. 1 time, for a dominant win in some great conditions. After taking second to Warwick's Leah Graybill earlier in the meet in the 200 meters, Barnes came back in a big way in the 400.
She made up the stagger early and never looked back, rolling to the US No. 20 clocking. After a big indoor season that saw Barnes run a huge PR of 54.05 in the 400 and place fourth at indoor nationals, one had to figure she was prepared to drop a big quarter mile race.
