AAA Girls' High Jump Preview
Lydia Bottelier will look to add her third straight PIAA outdoor title and fifth overall state title, counting indoors. The Palisades senior and Pitt recruit has moved from AA to AAA this year and it will present a very competitive field of high jumpers.
Bottelier squeaked out a District 11 title last week, clearing 5-7, but is having a tremendous senior campaign, that included a 5-10.5 to win at the Penn Relays. Now she's looking to cap off her career with another state win and she'll be the one to beat.
She will be challenged, though. Easton Area's Kate Willshaw gave her a run for her money at District 11, taking second because of an early miss. Willshaw's cleared 5-8 this season. The same goes for Cheltenham's Brianna Smith, who jumped 5-8 this year at Bullis. She's also got over 5-7 on three other occasions. Both will be in the mix.
We can't forget about the reigning state champion, Kate Donnelly of Council Rock North. She jumped 5-7 to pull off the surprise state win last year. She'll look for more Shippensburg magic this weekend. Central Mountain's Amelia McCloy is having a big season. The District 6 champ jumped 5-7 at Lock Haven this season and should be a factor, too.
Twin Valley's Kayla Gillen and Avon Grove's Alana Boiardi enter the state meet having both jumped 5-6 this season. Meanwhile, Pottsville's Payton Kleckner and Abington Heights' Calista Marzolino both cleared season bests of 5-5 at their respective district meets.
