AA Girls' Triple Jump Preview
Bishop Carroll's Maddie Murphy will look to win her first career state title this weekend, and she'll be the big favorite in the AA triple jump field. The senior jumped 39-7.5, the state's No. 3 overall jump and the best AA leap by over 2 feet. She is a multi-time state medalist but it may be her turn on top of the podium at Ship.
Four other girls have jumped 37 feet or better on the season. Conwell-Egan's Theresa Richardson jumped 37-3.5 to win the District 12 title and went 37-5 during the regular season. The returner from a year ago is Jayla Bernard. Now at Neumann Goretti, the sophomore jumped 37-00 for second to Richardson at D12 last week. A year ago, she jumped her PR of 37-6 at the state meet and she'll look for a similar performance this season, too.
Hanover Area's Abby Korba jumped 37-0.25 and then 37-1 in May. The District 2 champ should be a factor, entering the meet at the No. 3 seed. Sasha Lee of Saint Basil, the District 1 champ, has consistently been in the 36-foot range this season, and has a season best of 37-2. Expect Korba and Lee to be in the mix for high podium finishes this weekend.
Saltsburg's Jenna Beitel took second by a half inch over Izzy Warren of Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy at the District 6 Championships, which top seed Murphy won. Battled-tested, those two will certainly be factors on the runways at Ship.
