AAA Girls' Triple Jump Preview
Christina Warren will aim to put an exclamation point on what has already been a terrific career at Perkiomen Valley. The senior and Arizona State-bound athlete will look to win her third straight AAA triple jump state title this weekend. Warren is having her best season yet in the triple. She jumped 41-4.5, a win-legal US No. 4, to take top American honors at the Penn Relays and added another 41+ jump to win the District 1 title last week.
She's the big favorite at Ship, and it may not be out of the question to keep an eye on the all-time state record (and state meet record) of 42-10.25 by Sheena Gordon from 2002 if Warren has a big day.
Warren's top competition will come from West York Area's Tesia Thomas, who can certainly pop a big one. Thomas jumped 39-11 to win the District 3 title and has consistently been in the 38-39 foot range this spring. During the indoor season, she went 40-5. Fifth a year ago, Thomas will be hungry for a big finish to her junior season.
Four more girls in the field have jumped over 38 feet this season. In the loaded District 3, Wilson's Amanda Tony, Conestoga Valley's Aviona Saunders, Warwick's Juliette Delmotte, and South Western's Zaiyah Marshall all leapt past that barrier this season. Central Dauphin's Gabriella Recce just missed 38 feet, but was second to Thomas with a 37-11.5 at the District 3 Championships. Expect a big D3 contingent on the podium back on the Ship runways.
Ridley's Meghan Lynch has also jumped over 38 feet; she went 38-1.5 to win at DELCOs. Lynch along with other District 1ers Peyton Kullman (Upper Dublin) and Anais Williams (North Penn), will be a factor at states. State College's Noelia Pagano jumped a PR of 37-11 to win at District 6, and she'll hope to ride that momentum into a big effort at the state meet.
