AA Girls' Pole Vault Preview
Expect a very competitive AA girls pole vault this weekend as some of the state's best from different sections of PA will clash. Taylor Shriver of Waynesburg Central jumped 12-7 to win the WPIAL title, while Loyalsock's Hailey Zurich cleared 12-6.25 to win the District 4 crown. Those two are 1-2 seeds for this coming weekend.
Zurich took third at states last year, while Shriver, just a frosh, was 12th. For these girls, it will all come down to who brings there best on the right day. This will be a good matchup to watch throughout the day.
Western Wayne's Trina Barcarola has cleared 12-0 this season. The District 2 champion can't be counted out here. She was also third a year ago, and can certainly compete for the top spot in the state in AA. Three girls -- Laken Lewis (Clarion Area), Kayla Long (Annville-Cleona), and Kendall Grossman (Moniteau) -- have all cleared 11-6 this spring. Grossman is the top returner from the state meet last year, taking second to the now-graduated Morgan Gossard of Richland.
Other returning medalists from last year's state meet are Warrior Run's Rylie Mong and Delone Catholic's Danielle Malesky. They will look for return trips to the podium.
