AAA Girls' Pole Vault Preview
Last year, Mackenzie Horn vaulted her way to the state title and a state meet record of 13-3 in the pole vault in AAA. A week earlier, she broke the state record with a clearance of 13-7.25 at the District 3.
Fast forward to this season and Sydney Horn, Mackenzie's younger sister and Manheim Township junior, will look to keep the state title in the family. She'll also have a good shot at her sister's meet and state record. Horn jumped 12-6 to win the District 3 title last week, but she's jumped 13-6 at a dual meet (and over 13 feet on four other occasions. The indoor state champ will look to add her first outdoor gold.
Horn saw what will likely be some of her best competition at the District 3 meet. Central Dauphin's Gabriella Recce was second to Horn in D3 at 12-0. She had a 12-6 to her name from the Ship Invite earlier this season. Central York's Cierra Crane jumped 12-00 for third place at D3. Back at Ship, look for those girls to contend for high finishes.
District 1 has a solid group of girls to watch for. Hatboro-Horsham's Allison Riches went 12-0 to win the district title, matching her PR. The Methacton duo of Camaryn Rodriguez and Nickolina Annelli went 2-3 at D1 with 11-6s. Annelli cleared 12-3 this season.
Allentown Central Catholic's Jamilie Atiyeh, the District 11 champ, has cleared 12-0 this season and should factor in. Abington Heights' Danielle Heine won the District 2 title and has a season best of 11-6, but a year ago, she went 12-0 to take fifth at the state meet.
One that can't be counted out is State College's Lyndsey Reed. Her season best is 11-11.75, but the senior cleared 13 multiple times indoors. Reed will look for a big final state meet this weekend.
