AA Boys' High Jump Preview
It's going to be a wide open battle for the AA boys high jump state title in what is a very deep field overall.
The top-ranked AA boy in the state is Samuel Hetrick, a Redbank Valley junior, who jumped 6-7 on two separate occasions this season. He was seventh a year ago, but the District 9 champ is much-improved this spring and will contend for the top spot. The top seed based on district performance is Logan Pfister of Chestnut Ridge, who cleared 6-6.25 to win the District 5 title. He got states experience as a frosh and now the sophomore will be a serious state title threat.
Four boys enter the weekend with season bests at 6-6. District 12 champion Michael Niemann (Lansdale Catholic), District 1 champion Joshua Forker (Faith Christian Academy), District 3 runner-up Tyler Hulse (Tulpehocken), and District 11 runner-up Zach Moyer (Northern Lehigh) make up that list. Each will be looking for a big day at the state meet.
Kolt Byers of Bermudian Springs was a 2018 indoor state champion in the high jump. He is a clutch performer and can't be slept on in this field. He took home the District 3 title this past week. Darnel Howell (Monessen), Bryce Ellinger (Minersville Area), and Bryce Collins (Riverside) have all cleared bests of 6-5 this season.
With no clear-cut favorite, the AA high jump is one of the meet's most open events. Who will bring their A game on the right day?
