AAA Boys' Triple Jump Preview
State College's Lance Hamilton has been one of the state's top triple jumpers for a few years now. But the senior has yet to win a state title. His time may come this weekend. Hamilton has been terrific and consistent all season long. He's jumped in the 48s three time and the 49s three times, including most recently a 49-8.5 PR for the District 6 title. The current US No. 6 is approaching 50 feet and a good day might net him that number.
But he will be challenged in what is a deep year in the AAA triple jump. Harrisburg's Jakari Lomax is hungry for a state title, too. He popped a big PR of 48-8.25 to win the District 3 crown, a good sign that he's peaking at the right time. Manheim Central's Will Rivers was second to Lomax at District 3.
Indoor state champ Stanley Hamilton of State College will be a factor, too. He took the win in the winter at Penn State with a big last jump and the senior will look for some similar magic outdoors. He jumped 48-0.75 at the Penn Relays this year.
Four other have jumped over 47 feet this season: Shaler Area's Cam Mbalo (47-10.5 season best), Northeast's Valcour Marcellus (47-2 season best), Upper Dublin's Jaden Price-Whitehead (47-1.75 season best), and Neshaminy's Logan Williamson (47-1.25 season best). Coatesville's Naheem Moore (46-6.5 season best) is the only returning medalist back besides Lance Hamilton and Lomax.
Expect some big jumps and great competition with a state title on the line here.
