AAA Boys' 100m Hurdles Preview
Ayden Owens has dazzled onlookers in the high hurdles for the past few years, but the former North Allegheny star is off at USC. That's means it's time for a new top high hurdler in Pennsylvania and a good race should be coming in AAA.
Jared Bannon of Hempfield Area rose to the top of the state rankings with a big 14.11 effort this past week to win the WPIAL. it was a big PR for the senior, who is now the one to beat at Ship. But this field looks relatively open for a number of boys to take that top spot.
Central Dauphin East's Emmanuel Niang and Ramir Wiggins have both run 14.29 this season. Niang took home the District 3 title, while Wiggins was third in District 1. Both will aim to give Bannon a run for the win. Allen Taylor of Williamsport Area ran 14.30 to win the District 4 high hurdles, following up a nice 14.35 from a week earlier. That consistency will bode well for the No. 2 seed.
Nazir Dunell of Elmer L. Meyers is the defending AA state champion, but he's moved to AAA this season. He'll still be a contender for the win, despite the change. He went 14.39 for the District 2 title, and hasn't raced a whole lot this season. He'll be in the mix.
District 6 champion Lokey Howell of State College Area, Antonio Maletta of Abington Heights, and District 12 champion Godwin Kabanda of Northeast are among the other contenders in what looks to be a race that is up for grabs.
