AA Boys' Discus Preview
Brock Grundy is going for the repeat this weekend in his top event, the discus. The Hickory senior is the defending state champion and is throwing the best of his career heading into the state meet. Grundy comes in with a season best and PR of 189-0. He's thrown 179 twice in May and will be poised to take the top spot again with a strong day.
He'll be challenged by a pair of 170+ throwers in the deep AA field. Chestnut Ridge's Duane Knisely has thrown 174-11 this season and captured the District 5 win last week. He was fifth a year ago. Moniteau's James Parenti was fourth at the state meet last year. The District 9 champ threw 171-10 to win that title last week and looks to be throwing well heading into the weekend.
Corry Area's Jacob Nelson and Wilmington's Connor Vass-Gal make up a good D10 contingent in the field after Grundy. Nelson has a season best of 168-0, while Vass-Gal comes in at 163-2. Lakeland's CJ Dippre, the District 2 champion, will be aiming for a repeat of last year. He took third at the state meet in 2018, and just threw a PR of 163-2 to win D2, so he's on a good pace for that with another big day.
Kane Area's Bailey Blint, eighth last year, is another returning medalist in this field. Wyomissing Area's Evan Niedrowski, who won at District 3 with a 163-1, is worth keeping an eye on in this competition, too.
