The Saints bookended their day with relay victories, claiming the 4x800 meter relay (9:17.22) on Saturday and then closing out the meet with another 4x400 meter relay state crown (3:51.87) -- both convincing wins in those relays. NG also took an eighth place finish in the 4x100 meter relay.
That sprint and relay depth was there in the individual events too. It was another big state meet for Mykala Perry, who won the 400 meters in a new meet record time of 54.50. Perry came back to take second to Thelma Davies in the 200 meters. In the 800 meters, Kami Joi Hickson (2:11.84) and Sanaiya Watts (2:14.39) were second and fourth, respectively, to pick up big points.
Jayla Bernard performed well, placing second in a very close triple jump competition (37-8.5) and adding a fifth place finish in the 100 meter hurdles, providing some key insurance points on Saturday.
With most of the big scorers back next year, the Saints will be going for the four-peat!
South Park, paced by an incredible three medals in the throws by Maura Huwalt and two medals in the sprints by Maddie Raymond, took second with 36 points.
