Jonah Hoey of Bishop Shanahan held his own and more against an elite 800 meter field at Friday night's John Hay Distance Festival at West Chester Henderson.
Hoey clocked a 1:51.12 to take third in a race that was won by former NCAA champion and Nike athlete Isaiah Harris, as well as Penn State's Domenic Perretta. That time for Hoey is a new PR and a new PA No. 1 time.
Hoey hung well in the pack and had a strong kick in the end to bring it home in the state-leading time. After a third place finish in a very competitive AAA 1600 at the PIAA State Championships, Hoey has been turning his attention to the 800 for a busy summer of races to be determined.
