Ciccolini Captures NBNO Javelin Title

Skylar Ciccolini added another signature win to her resume on Friday evening, capturing a national title in the girls javelin.

At New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Greensboro, North Carolina, Ciccolini tossed a best of 161-10 to take the victory in the Championship section of the girls' javelin. It is the Mifflin County senior's first national title. She was fourth as a sophomore and did not compete in the meet last year.

Ciccolini, who launched a US No. 2 all-time throw earlier in the season, didn't quite meet her best, but still came away with the title. Her throw of 184-2 from the Penn Relays sits as her PR and season best.

"It's definitely bittersweet," she said after the competition. "I wanted to put a bigger number together, a little better series, but in the end, you have to win the day, so I'm glad I did that."

It's been a big postseason for Ciccolini. She won the PIAA Class AAA state title in the javelin for a second straight year. After that, she was named PTFCA girls' athlete of the year and then won the Iron Wood Throws Classic in Idaho.

Next up for Ciccolini is the the USATF U20 Championship in Mirimar, Florida next week, where she'll be aiming for a top two finish and a spot on USA's Pan-Am team. She is currently the top seed.
