5/20-West Mifflin, Fitzgerald light up the track with lots of company @ D7 AAA @ Baldwin

Districts 3 and 1 are the only two big enough to record the number of top performances as WPIAL, but this year's group also recordeed five WPIAL records, which is saying something.

The five were a 41.83 by a hot-talking (we run the talk) squad from West Mifflin; Ian Fitzgerald, North Hills, with another step toward the state 3200 record, going 9:04.45; New Castle's Ross Crist wwith a Javelin throw offf 188-04; the Penn Hills girls recording a 47.67 4x100; and Ringgold senior Bev Rogers going 141-05 to break a former Ringgold throwers' WPIAL record in the Javelin. West Mifflin also took the 4x400 in 3:2.98. Upper Saint Clair threw showed the state 4x800 field for champ candidates is pretty big this year, getting 9:23.53. Katie Orchowski, USC, took 2nd in the 400 in 57.70. Andrew Johnson, North Hills, and Robert Staten, Bethel Park, traded championships with Johnson taking the 100 in 10.73 (Staten 10.83), and Staten taking the 200 in 22.03 (Johnson 22.04). Three guys go 1:55-point, with Ken King, a Connellsville junior at 1:55.10, Shaler senior John Balouris at 1:55.64; and Latrobe senior Mack Brickley at 1:55.83. North Allegheny ran 7:54.18 to show they're ready for a run at States.
