Boys' 200 Meters Preview
Like the 60 meters, we can expect a very close battle in the 200 meters with some of the top 60 dash names colliding with some of the big names from the 400 meters to meet in the middle.
The top seed and PA No. 1 entering the meet is Donovan Sanders of Girard College, who edged out Central Dauphin East's Shawn Brown in a nail-biter at January's Kevin Dare Invite at PSU. Sanders went 21.59 for that win, while Brown clocked in at 21.61. We'll get a rematch on the same track Sunday with a number of other talented 200 meter runners also in the field.
Saint Joseph's Prep's Salim Epps, the top seed in the 400 meters, will be a factor in the 200 meters. He ran a best of 21.85 earlier this season and should figure into the conversation quite heavily. Kai Cummings of Germantown Friends won the North Shore Pre-National Invite at the Armory in 21.97 and Motivation's Laminu Abbas went 21.99 to win the Philly Public League Invite, making up the other sub-22 boys in the field. Both Cummings and Abbas should be factors in the second fastest section, along with Brookville's Ian Thrush and Boyertown's Julian Saunders. Thursh went 22.07 at YSU, while Saunders ran a flat track 22.48 to win the TFCAofGP MOC title.
Wyomissing's Nashawn Dunbar, JP McCaskey's Dejon Manning, Overbrook's Lucky Kromah, and Harrisburg's Donte Kent are among the others that will be in contention for the medal stand or more in this deep 200 field.
