Girls' Triple Jump Preview
Tia Taylor of St. Basil Academy has been in rarified air this season in the triple jump, moving her PR to 39 feet, 10 inches and US#9 heading into this weekend. A few extra inches in any phase could move her into very select company when it comes to the PTFCA finale.
Only five athletes have covered at least 40 feet in the event, with Chambersburg's Marshay Ryan leading the way with her 40-11.5 performance in 2013.
Taylor, who was third last year in the TJ, is the state leader by almost a foot, but four other competitors in this year's state top 10 won medals a year ago. Tesia Thomas of West York Area was the 2019 runner-up and has jumped 38-8 in 2019, while senior Siani Barnes of Upper Darby was 6th last year and is sixth entering Sunday's event.
St. Joseph's Catholic Academy's Izzy Warren (8th, 37-7) and Friends' Central's Inara Shell (5th, 37-6.25) have credentials from last year and this season. A dozen of the field of 20 have spanned 37-0 during these past three months.
