What Might Have Been At States: Girls Sprints & Hurdles

What Would Have Been: Girls 100 Meters

AA

For the first time in four years, there was set to be a new state champion in the AA 100 meters, as Thelma Davies has graduated. With the cancelation of the season, Davies will stay the defending champion for yet another season. Davies holds the all-time PA state record as well the state meet record and is off at LSU now.

But five finalists are back in what would have been a good matchup. South Park junior Maddie Raymond would be the one to beat. She went 12.01 to win the WPIAL title last spring and placed second to Davies at Ship. Raymond has the experience and would have been tough to beat.

Bishop McDevitt's Khaliyah Bosman was third last season and would have figured into the mix on the heals of a strong indoor campaign. Frazier's Skye Eicher would have been one to watch after going 12.23 in 2019 and placing second to Raymond in D7.

AAA

After Hayden Robinson of Avonworth/Northgate crossed the line to win the AAA state crown last spring in the 100 meters, a trio of Warwick girls came across the line next with Lily Palacio-Lewis, Leah Graybill, and Meghan Quinn going 2-3-4. Graybill has graduated, but the talented duo of Palacio-Lewis and Quinn are back this year. And those two had a big winter, going 1-2 at the 60 meters at the indoor state meet with Quinn grabbing the state crown in the short sprint.

Quinn and Palacio-Lewis, both seniors, would be among the favorites in a fairly wide open field in the 100. Harry S. Truman's Jaleezia Gibson and Scranton's Kyahni Harbin are the among the other medalists back in the 100.

Norristown's Teliyah James has a quick 11.82 from last spring and would be a 100 meter factor again, while Master Charter-Hardy Williams' Marlina Voker (third in the indoor state 60m) and Abington's Mayu Gayton (fourth in the indoor state 60m) would be among the other contenders in what would likely be a very close race.
