Frances Koons, just hours before the extended 6/12 6pm deadline for the adidas Outdoor Championships set for this Friday and Saturday in Raleigh, NC, entered the girls Mile. With some of the best high school talent ever assembled in one race, including Kaltenbach, Blood, Chock and others, the race features 11 state champions and 11 girls under 4:49.74.
Frances Koons told PennTrackXC that she started to think about the AOC mile while rooming in California with Alicia Follmar, the Caliifornia state champ. "She made it a point to tell me that I really should think about entering the mile at AOC." And then while waiting at the airport for the flight home, she had a "gut feeling" that she had "one more mile in me to run for CCHS." She called her coach, talked with her grandfather, who had accompanied her to Golden West, and her parents. All were supportive and advised her to follow her feelings. So it's into one of the best girls' Mile fields ever. "If I had to sit back and watch that race, I think I would regret it a lot."

Koons had been slated to anchor the Allentown Central Catholic 4x800 on Friday night and the DMR on Saturday night.
