Throwback Interviews: Mellinger Wins Both LJ & 200m


Versatility was the name of the game at last year's PIAA State Championships for Lampeter-Strasburg's Ezra Mellinger. It was a busy Saturday for the senior, and it resulted in a pair of state titles -- one in the field and one on the track.

With the help of his meet day fuel, "goat yogurt," the current Duke athlete

Mellinger started his day winning his main event -- the long jump -- with a leap of 23-9.25. Mellinger, who had already won an indoor state title in the event in the winter, was the favorite coming and he executed well to capture his first outdoor state crown.

Then he returned later, towards to end of a long meet, to win a close one in the 200 meters. Mellinger clocked a time of 21.40 for the victory and a new personal best, edging out a fast field in the final.

It was a memorable senior season and state meet for Mellinger, a multi-talented athlete we won't soon forget in Pennsylvania. Check out interviews with him athlete below:
