Individuals Breakdown

With Neumann Goretti and Masterman moving to AA this season, as well as some graduations, it means the top returners in D12-A took 15th last year at the district championship meet. That top returner is Motivation's Jamyilaah Godwin, who ran 25:29 at the district meet last season.

But Mastery-Hardy Williams' Desire Harris (22nd at districts) would be the one to beat in the district this season. She ran 23:41 -- a big improvement -- to take 166th at the state meet. That is the quickest returning time in D12-A. Belmont Charter's Tamara McPhereson (16th at districts) and the Conwell-Egan duo of Mackenzie Wickham (17th at districts) and Angelina Lyons (19th at districts) are other would-be contenders in the district.

Team Preview

Last year, Neumann Goretti and Masterman rolled to the top two spots in D12-A and with it, the two state qualifying spots. But NG and Masterman have both moved to AA for this season and now A is only allotted one state qualifying spot, as opposed to the two it got last season.

So it will be a fairly wide open race for that lone states spot. Paul Robeson was third in the district last year, and GAMP was fourth, but both of those teams lost key pieces and will need to retool to be a factor. The battle for the lone spot would likely be between Motivation and Mastery Charter-Hardy Williams. Motivation may have a slight advantage on depth.
