Individuals Breakdown

Garrett Baublitz of Juniata completed the district four-peat last year, taking home the D6-AA individual crown in 15:49 on what was a fast day at Indian Valley Middle School. Baublitz won that district title each year of his high school career. But he's now off to Navy, and the door is open finally for a new district champ in D6-AA. It won't be last year's runner-up, Van May of Bedford, as his team has moved to a different "region" this year with District 8.

So the one to beat this year will be Central Cambria's Toby Cree, who was fourth in the district and then 12th in the state. He closed out his season in a big way and should be a major factor for a high finish at the state level again this year. He'll be tough to stop in the district.

There are a number of boys with breakout potential. Bellefonte's Austin Melius (seventh) and the Central Cambria duo of Eli Wandel (eighth) and Devon Morgan (ninth) are back from the top ten in the district last season. Melius was 60th in the state, while Morgan was 62nd at states. Jude Martyak of Forest Hills is another boy to keep an eye on after an 11th place finish in the district last fall.

Team Breakdown

Central Cambria made it five district titles in a row last year, putting forth a dominating effort at the district championship meet to win with just 33 points to win by 68 points. Little should stand in the Red Devils' way in its pursuit of six straight D6-AA titles. Five varsity boys are back from last year, led by a returning state medalist in Cree. Wandel and Morgan were a pair of impressive underclassmen that will be key cogs in CC's machine this fall.

The Red Devils were fifth in the state last season and should be on pace for another impressive run for a high finish at Hershey again this season. CC will be a state title contender.

There's just one state spot in D6-AA, so it will be tough for anyone to overcome Central Cambria. Last year's runners-up from Somerset Area have moved to a different region. Bellefonte Area returns its full varsity squad from a team that took fourth in the district last season. Westmont Hilltop and Tyrone Area will also look to get in the mix for high team finishes.
