Mulhern & Singleton Drop Quick 2 Mile Races

A pair of Pennsylvania's top distance talents took to Virginia Beach on Sunday for the VA Showcase, and both threw down very quick times in the 2 mile.

Jenna Mulhern placed sixth in what was a very fast girls 2 mile. Up front, Wyoming standout Sydney Thorvaldson and Texas' Brynn Brown raced for the win in fast times with Thorvaldson earning the win in 9:47.95.

Mulhern, a West Chester Henderson junior, was in a chase pack with New Jersey's Charlotte Bednar. Mulhern ended up running a time of 10:19.83, just a second off the fifth place Bednar. Mulhern's time is the fourth fastest in state history over the 2 mile distance.

Then in the boys race, CJ Singleton, a junior at Butler, went 9:10.86 to take third in a heat won by South Carolina's Sam Rich in a time of 9:05.14. Singleton gradually picked his way through the field until it was eventially just three boys battling for the win. Ultimately, Rich had the best finishing speed in the field to take the win.

For Singleton, it's the sixth fastest indoor 2 mile time in PA state history. It's also about eight seconds faster than Singleton's winning time from the same track, which he ran earlier this season at the VA Beach Opener.
