The Central Bucks West girls made a huge statement on Thursday, asserting themselves as the team to beat in the 4x800 meter relay with a rankings-topping performance at the Helman Memorial Invitational at Pennridge.
The quartet of Claire Dalsass, Kate Edenson, Emmi Simon, and Carlin McFadden clocked a time of 9:05.11, a PA No. 1 and current US No. 2 to win the event in what turned into a mostly solo effort. On Thursday, it was the nation's fastest time in addition to the state-leading time, but on Friday, Haddonfield Memorial (NJ) ran less than a half second faster with a 9:04.72 at the Cherokee Relays.
Dalsass led off with a 2:21 to give West the early lead at the first exchange. Edenson opened it up splitting a 2:14 before handing off to Simon who split a 2:16. McFadden brought it home with a big anchor leg in 2:12-high.
Three of the four girls on the relay have individual 800 times that land inside the top 25 in PA, so it was just a matter of time before West put down a statement race. West also holds down the PA No. 1 spot in the 4x400m relay with a best of 3:56.37. In the 4x8, West holds down the top spot in PA by over 20 seconds with JP McCaskey at PA No. 2 with a season best of 9:26.45.
