AAA Boys 400m Preview
A pair of teammates lead the charge into the AAA 400 meters Saturday. The Cumberland Valley duo of James Jaisingh and David Williams have been at or around the top of the state for a good deal of the season. Jaisingh seized back the PA No. 1 spot over the weekend, taking the District 3 title in 47.77. Williams was right behind him, taking second in 47.93 -- the only two sub-48 performances of the season.
Back on the same track as last week, Jaisingh and Williams will look for the same result. They have been solid all season and those two will look to battle it out themselves for the state crown. Two years ago, Jaisingh placed fourth in the state when he was a sophomore, so he has experience on this stage.
But the CV pair will have plenty of boys looking to steal the show. Among them is Logan Zeiders of York Suburban, who sits at PA No. 3 (48.05) and placed third to Jaisingh and Williams at District 3. Zeiders, who ran 48.48 at districts, will look for some revenge.
Parkland's Mustapha Salau is the threat for the top spot, as well. He was also a finalist in 2019 in the AAA 400 where he took eighth. Now two years later, Salau will aim to move up to the top spot and he certainly has a good shot after an impressive PR of 48.16 to claim the District 11 title.
Wissahickon's Isaiah Marc will be factor after winning the District 1 crown with a 48.81. He's running his best at the right time and will have a good shot at a high finish on Saturday. Hampton's Gage Galuska scored a massive PR to win the WPIAL title last week, clocking a big PR of 49.89. He will look for another big week at Ship. Galuska was ahead of Butler's Guinness Brown, who went 48.90 for second. Brown has a season best of 48.60, but he went 48.22 indoors to claim third at adidas Indoor Nationals, so he will absolutely be one to keep an eye on in this field.
A few others have the chance to make some noise in this strong field. Manheim Township's Darren Cammauf (dipped under 49 seconds with a 48.97 for fourth in D3) was the last boy to make the fast heat, while Downingtown West's Elijah Ford, Shamokin's Billy Delbaugh, and Roman Catholic's Tyler Boone could make some big moves up the ladder from the second of the three timed final sections.
