PIAA States Preview: Boys' Sprints & Hurdles

AAA Boys 4x400m Relay Preview

Since the opening week of the season (see above), the Cumberland Valley boys have been the class of the 4x400 meter relay in PA. The Eagles started the spring off way back in March with a 3:20 at the Tim Cook Invitational. Since then, CV has bettered its PA No. 1 to 3:17.44, which is four seconds faster than the next closest team. CV also boasts the two top quarter milers in the state in James Jaisingh and David Williams.

On Saturday, in the final event of the state meet, Cumberland Valley will look to take home the state title.

Of course, nothing is ever a given, and that certainly is the case when it comes to the 4x400. Palmyra, in fact, made it close at the District 3 Championships, coming within about a half second of CV -- 3:20.94 to 3:21.52. Palmyra now sits at PA No. 2 entering the weekend, and will hope to flip the script on Cumberland Valley.

Central Bucks West ran to the District 1 title on Saturday, just missing a season best time. West sits at PA No. 3 and has some good depth to make it interesting near the front. Radnor was a close second to CB West, running 3:22.64 at D1. Canon-McMillan is tied at PA No. 3 with CB West, having run 3:22.01 at Baldwin. C-M rolled to the WPIAL title, also just missing a season best.

Not a lot separates some of these medal-hopeful squads. Penn Wood, North Penn, LaSalle College, CoatesvilleState College Area, and Butler will be among the teams vying for spots on the podium.

Cumberland Valley will aim to solidify its spot as the best 4x4 this season, but surely there will be a lot of teams gunning for the upset. It all comes down to who has the most left at the end of a long day.
