AAA Girls High Jump Preview
The theme of the girls' jumps this year in AAA seems to be that all these events are relatively wide open. That's certainly the case in the high jump. The performance list has the top eight girls in the field coming in with seeds at 5-5.
Two girls in that bunch have cleared 5-7 during the season: Margaux Rawson of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Emma Pavelek of Beaver Area. Two years ago, Pavelek placed second at the state meet in AA. Her team has moved to AAA this season, but Pavelek will once again be in the mix for a title; she missed out on a state title on misses in 2019. Pavelek cleared 5-7 at the Baldwin Invite.
Rawson, meanwhile, has had a strong spring. She jumped 5-7 at the Judge Relays and placed second in District 1. She will be a contender for the win.
Pottsville's Payton Kleckner was fourth at the state meet in 2019, and now two years later, she is also right back in the mix with a shot to compete for the state win. She jumped a best of 5-6 this year and has cleared, and has jumped 5-5 three other times this spring. Her experience will come in handy on the big stage.
Other contenders in this field include those with a 5-5 best this spring: District 3 champion Madeline Lehker of South Western, District 1 champion Amira Green of Neshaminy, District 2 champion Fatikha Tiktova of Wyoming Valley West, Madison Knier of Manheim Central, Ally Richwine of Carlisle, and Nene Mokonchu of Spring Ford.
The high jump is no stranger to surprise state champs, and we'll see if any of the others emerge as a title threat with a big day at Ship.
