PIAA States Preview: Boys' Jumps

AAA Boys High Jump Preview

Conrad Moore placed third at the state meet two years ago as a sophomore. Now a senior, and after a season long due to the pandemic, Moore is better than ever and hoping to win his first state title. The State College jumper sits at PA No. 1, having cleared 6-10 twice this season, which is two inches better than PA No. 2. Moore has been undefeated and will hope to keep that streak alive and close it out with the win.

But the high jump can get unpredictable at times and a number of talented PA jumpers will look to score the upset. Among those threats to the top spot is Shippensburg's Dakota Arana. The junior has broken through in a big way this season. He jumped a best of 6-8 (PA No. 2) to take second to Moore at Mid-Penns. Last week, he won the District 3 title. He'll be one to watch.

Grant Ellis of James Buchanan has cleared 6-6 this year -- he cleared that when he took third behind Moore and Arana at Mid-Penns, so the state meet is shaping up very similarly -- at least among the top seeds -- to Mid-Penns. Ellis jumped 6-5 for second in District 3.

Six other boys have cleared a best of 6-5 in this field and will look to get in the mix for spots on the podium: District 2 champion LeJean Berry of Wilkes-Barre, District 1 champion Aidan Rohrbough of Owen J. Roberts, District 11 champion Elijah Rogers of Liberty, Chris Bonsignore of North Penn, Jahzeel Watson of Pottstown, and Zaquan Bruton of Chichester
