AAA Boys Pole Vault Preview
Justin Rogers will look to cap off what has been a memorable season with a state title. The Hershey junior vaulted to PA No. 2 all-time a few weeks ago, clearing 16-6.25 at the Mid-Penn Championship. Rogers jumped 15-6 to win the District 3 title and he will be the one to beat on Saturday.
The state meet record sits at 16-6 from 2012. Rogers will certainly have a good shot at that. The all-time state record is 17-0, and with a big day and the energy of the state meet crowd behind him, maybe Rogers could make a play at the top of the record books.
Of course, the field outside of Rogers is very strong, and capable of giving him a run for his money for the state title. Four other boys have cleared 15 feet or better this spring. Upper Perkiomen's Hunter Flack jumped 15-6 (PA No. 2) earlier this spring. Shikellamy's Mason Brubaker cleared 15-2, and State College's Ian Dorefice and LaSalle College's Tommy Christie have both gotten over 15-0. All four could have a big day and make a run at the upset. Dorefice is the District 6 champion, while Christie took home the win in District 12.
This is a deep field overall. Unionville's Jack Miles beat Flack for the District 1 title last week with a clearance of 14-6. Miles jumped 15-2 during the indoor season. Hempfield Area's Tanner Barnhart jumped 14-10. He cleared 14-9 to win the WPIAL crown. Lewisburg's Adam Seasholtz jumped 14-9 to edge out Brubaker for the District 4 crown.
Penncrest's Daniel Munro (14-7 SB) and Warwick's Nate Good (14-6 SB) have also cleared big bars this spring. Rogers is the one to beat, but this is one of the deepest AAA pole vault fields we've ever seen.
