AA Boys Long Jump Preview
Less than two inches separates the top four seeds in the AA boys long jump ahead of Friday's competition with a state title on the line. In fact, it's less than two inches. This one is going to come down to some close measurements!
While he's seeded fifth entering the meet, Wyalusing Valley's Kashawn Cameron is the top-ranked AA long jumper of the season. He leapt 22-8.5 to win the NTL title a few weeks ago. He added a District 4 title with a jump of 21-11 and could be the one to beat on Friday.
But a number of boys are riding into Ship on the heels of some big PRs. East Allegheny's Amaryeh Luckey is seeded first after he jumped 22-4-75 for the win at the WPIAL Championships. That was a huge PR for the senior, who will look to replicate that performance at Ship. Delco Christian's Josiah Bronkema also put down a massive PR of 22-4.25 to take home the District 1 title on Saturday. That should give him a ton of confidence as he enters the state meet.
Archbishop Carroll's Malachi Hansen and Pine Grove's Josh Leininger both jumped 22-3 to win their respective district titles this past week. Hansen was the District 12 champ, while Leininger won at District 11. Likewise, those were also big PRs for both boys, who are gaining steam at the right time. Annville-Cleona's Casey Hess, the District 3 champion, jumped 22-0 to win the L-L League a few weeks ago and looks to be in a good spot headed into states as well.
After a district week that saw a ton of surprise performances, it's anyone's guess who could take the top spot at Shippensburg in the AA long jump. Expect a close competition that could come down to the quarter inches.
