PIAA States Preview: Boys' Jumps

AA Boys High Jump Preview

The past few weeks have been big for Littlestown's Dante Elliot in the high jump. After clearing 6-5 to win the YAIAA title, the senior jumped 6-6 for a new PR to win the District 3 AA title. He'll be the top seed entering Friday in the high jump.

Elliot has been hitting some big heights lately and that will bode well as he heads into the state meet, surely with hopes of a state title on his mind.

A pair of District 10 boys will be shooting for the title, too. Youngsville's Jake Hogg and Grove City's Josh Dreves both cleared 6-5 at Slippery Rock on Saturday. Hogg earned the win on misses, but both will be factors in the event on Friday.

Union freshman Hayden Smith has been impressive the past few weeks, clearing 6-4 twice -- most recently to win the District 9 title. Though he's just a freshman, Smith has asserted himself as a legitimate title threat in this field of entries. Johnsonburg's RJ Miller and Salisbury Township's Hunter Bleam have both cleared 6-3 this season and could make a run at a good finish here.

One boy to watch out for is Chestnut Ridge's Logan Pfister. The senior was eighth two years ago at states and even collected an overall indoor state title last winter before the pandemic shut down the rest of his junior year. He cleared 5-1 to win the District 5 title, but has an indoor best of 6-9 that could make him a sleeper worth watching for.
