It was a successful tune-up for the Tokyo Olympic Games for Ajee Wilson. The star middle distance runner, who will be representing Team USA at the Olympic Games, took to Franklin Field for a couple of races ahead of her departure for Tokyo.
Wilson, who went to high school in New Jersey, but trains in Philadelphia, doubled up at Sunday's Penn Relays Summer Series Presented by Toyota. She was slated to appear on Saturday night, but bad weather forced most of the meet to get moved to Sunday morning. But Wilson returned to Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, and came away with a pair of strong performances.
In the 800 meters, Wilson ran a season best of 1:57.85 to place seventh in a mixed field. That broke a long-standing Franklin Field facility record in the event by five seconds. She returned in the mile to win the women's section in 4:43.21.
