Mia Cochran's senior season started off in a big way at Saturday's Red, White & Blue Classic. The Moon Area senior clocked an XC 5K PR of 17:26, and won a key battle over one of the country's best in a thrilling race.
Cochran battled it out nearly the whole way in the AAA race at White Oak Park with Irene Riggs of Morgantown (WV). But Pennsylvania's top-ranked girl was able to gain some separation in the last bit of the race to kick to the victory. Riggs settled for second in 17:29.
It was a solid season-opener for Cochran who is the two-time reigning PIAA Class AAA state champion. She will be looking to win her third straight XC state title this fall, and surely has some big post-states plans as well.
