Jenna Mulhern opened up her senior season in a big way on Saturday, running the second fastest track 5K time in Pennsylvania state history. Mulhern ran a time of 16:25.22 to finish as the top female in a mixed race at the Garden State Twilight meet in Edison, New Jersey.
Mulhern, who will be competing unattached for her senior season, moved up to PA No. 2 all-time over 5,000 meters on the track with her performance. That trails only Lydia Russell's 16:18.72 state record from 2019. For Mulhern, it's an eight second improvement on her previous track 5K best of 16:33.93 from the Boundary Battle last year.
Saturday night was the season opener for the Furman University commit. Despite some windy New Jersey conditions, Mulhern still came away with a nice PR, and a solid opener to what will be an unconventional XC season for the senior without the normal slate of meets.
Next up for Mulhern is the Florida State Invitational to race a 6K. She'll be headed to Tallahassee for Friday's meet against some college competition in her what will be her debut 6K.
