Meet Preview: District 9 Championships

District 9 Class A Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 2
  • State Qualifying Spots For Individuals: 10

Individuals To Watch: Calvin Doolittle (Brookville); Alex Miller (Elk County Catholic); Christian Miller (Cranberry); Eli Schreiber (Ridgway); Kevin Sherry (Coudersport); Micah Williamson (Brockway); Matt Woolcock (Cranberry)

Contending Teams: Clarion Limestone; Cranberry; Elk County Catholic; North Clarion

The Skinny: Sherry will look to keep his great 2021 season rolling on Saturday. The sophomore has logged four wins this season at invites, winning at Lock Haven, Bradford, Ridgway and Rocky Grove. He's the one to beat in this race, as Woolcok, who was second to Sherry at Ridgway and Rocky Grove (and a winner at KSACs last week), will look to flip the script and go for the individual win.

Cranberry looks to make it three straight district titles on the team side. It's been another great season for this squad, which was second at the Ridgway Invitational and cruised to the KSAC title with just 19 points. Cranberry is a good bet for the top spot, while Elk County Catholic will make a run for the second spot. ECC has the advantage entering the meet over Clarion Limestone and North Clarion.

District 9 Class AA Boys - Race Preview

  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 1
  • State Qualifying Spots For Teams: 5

Individuals To Watch: Andrew Barnoff (Punsutawney); Astacio Deemer (DuBois); Manny Diaz (Bradford); Joseph Foradora (DuBois); Wyatt Foster (Saint Marys); Brayden Friar (Bradford); Leo Paterniti (Bradford); Christian Roemer (DuBois)

Contending Teams: DuBois Area; Punxsutawney Area; Saint Marys Area

The Skinny: With a good stock of returners from last year's team DuBois Area has proven to be the team to beat in D9-AA. DuBois won the Ridgway Invite a few weeks ago with room to spare over top rival Punxsutawney. Punxsy and Saint Marys will look to keep it close to challenge for the one and only team state qualifying spot. Individually, Deemer looks to be the one to beat. He was third at the Ridgway Invite and was the top AA finisher in that field. He'll look to continue his strong season on Saturday with a district title.
