Former Carrick/Slippery Rock runner\'s body found in West Virginia river

The body of a Mount Washington man missing since Saturday was pulled from the Cheat River in West Virginia yesterday.

Roch Furguiele ran for River City Elite under Coach Webb while attending Carrick High School from 1995-1996. He captured three City League titles in the 3,200 meters and 1,600 meters. He also qualified for the Junior Olympics.

He enrolled in Slippery Rock University in 1996 and majored in Safety & Environmental Management. Furguiele was the cross country team captain and also was two-time All-Conference and All-Region. He was named Most Valuable Athlete and provisionally qualified for nationals in the 5,000 meters in 1999. He was also two-time All-Conference in the 5,000 meters. In his senior year he was a national qualifier.

Furguiele graduated from Slippery Rock University December 2000, with a bachelor's of science degree. He is the son of Roch V. Furguiele and Donna M. DiRenna.
